Masters of the American West Highlights

Longing for Home by Kyle Polzin
Family Traditions by Morgan Weistling
Capturing the Captain's Coat by Howard Terpning

As supporters of the Autry, we wanted to share some of the highlights of the Masters of the American West show this year.

This was the first year that selected works were offered in an open live bid format, rather than silent bid.  There were paintings in the live bid auction by Howard Terpning,  ZS Liang,, Mian Situ, and Kyle Polzin.

The rest of the available paintings in the show were sold by ballot box draw as usual.

Howard Terpning was close to 2 Million with the sale of his painting Capturing the Chief's Coat 40 x 50 which sold for 1.9 Million to the highest bidder. Limited Edition giclee canvases of the piece were produced by his publisher The Greenwich Workshop, and have already sold out at the publisher. Contact us if you are interested in adding one of Howard Terpning's original paintings or sold-out at publisher limited editions to your art collection.

We are also fortunate to have some of Howard's double signed Artist Proofs direct from the family vault that we can offer our collectors.

Morgan Weistling won the Purchase Award for his wonderful painting Family Traditions, which is now part of the Autry permanent collection.  We are very happy for Morgan's well deserved win, although it would hae been nice to be able to buy the painting for one of our collectors : )

Kyle Polzin exceeded expectations yet again with his painting Longing for Home 17 x 36 which sold for 60.000.

Overall it was a good night for Western art.

You can browse more Western art on our website, and we have more art available that is not on the website. Contact us at 661 476-7558 or e-mail info@jwatsonfineart.com and let us know if there is something on your wish list for art we can assist you with.

Interview with Morgan Weistling and rare original paintings.

Emmie's Gold 48 x 30 Original Oil on Canvas by Morgan Weistling

Sierra's Hood 20 x 14 Original Oil on Canvas by Morgan Weistling

Morgan Weistling has an exceptional talent. His work is reminiscent of some of the great masters like Renoir, Sorolla and yet he has his own unique signature.

It is no surprise that his original paintings are prized by collectors. His rich technique and ability to capture the essence of the spirit of his subjects and their emotions set him apart.  Morgan has won numerous awards and his originals grace the walls of museums and prestigious private collections.

We are fortunate to have a few rare original paintings available by Master of the American West artist Morgan Weistling. We can also offer collectors his limited editions on canvas.

Despite Morgan's stellar position in the art world, he maintains his down to earth demeanor and his characteristic sense of humor. I interviewed Morgan and can share a behind-the-scene insight into the world of this famous artist with you here.

Call us at 661 476-7558 to add a Morgan Weistling original or limited edition canvas to your art collection.  You can read more about Morgan and view more of his artwork on the Morgan Weistling exhibit on our website.

Morgan Weistling Master of the American West Artist

End of Harvest by Morgan Weistling--New Painting 2012
Country Schoolhouse by Morgan Weistling
Apple Girl by Morgan Weistling
Pepper  a  Morgan Weislting Original Painting  20 x 15
Morgan Weistling is one of the top Masters of the American West artists at the Autry Museum. He has won many awards including the Prix de West and the Patron's Choice Award at the Autry.

His paintings of the Old West are beautiful and show great character.

Morgan's paintings are so popular that the smaller paintings are often sold by "draw" with many collectors submitting their names in hopes of being the one drawn to be able to purchase the painting.

At J Watson Fine Art, we are very good at finding the hard to find, and have the rare Morgan Weislting original painting, Pepper, available for a direct sale without a draw. This beautiful painting would be an excellent addition to any art collection.

Contact J Watson Fine Art for more information or to add a Morgan Weistling original painting or rare sold-out at publisher Artist Proof giclée canvas to your art collection, at 661 476-7558 or e-mail info@jwatsonfineart.com.

You can also read more about Morgan Weistling and view more of his art by visiting the Morgan Weislting exhibit on our website.

Mian Situ Art--Master of the American West Artist

Lakota Spirit 20 x 16 Mian Situ Original Painting
Lakota Girl 16 x 12 Mian Situ Original Painting
Point Alones Fishing Village, Monterey California 1875 by Mian Situ

Golden Spike Ceremony by Mian Situ

These two Mian Situ paintings, Lakota Girl and Lakota Spirit, offer the opportunity to acquire original art by this talented artist whose art is part of the permanent collection of the Autry Museum.

Mian Situ was born in Southern China, and lived in Canada for ten years before immigrating to the United States. He is one of the top contemporary artists in Western Art.

Mian has won many awards including the Masters of the American West Purchase Award for Convergence of Cultures, (this painting was added to the Autry National Center’s permanent collection), at the 2009 Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale. He also won the Gene Autry Memorial Award at the 2008, 2009, and 2010 Masters Show.

He has been featured in many art magazines including Art of the West, Southwest Art, and Western Art Collector among others.

His large painting at the 2011 Master's show, Point Alones Fishing Village, Monterey, California, 1875, oil on canvas, 48 x 72 in. sold for $171,000.

The two smaller paintings are affordable treasures that would make a great addition to any Western art collection. Mian's paintings are often only available by draw for the winning collector whose name is selected from all the entries in the draw, so this is a great opportunity for an outright acquisition, without having to wait for a winning draw.

Both wonderful portraits showcase the artist's skill and the quality artwork of this Master of the American West artist.

Contact J Watson Fine Art at 661 476-7559 or e-mail info@jwatsonfineart.com, or visit the Mian Situ exhibit on our website for more information about Mian Situ art.
